Romeo & Juliet

SET DESIGN

This production of Romeo and Juliet  was set in 1967 San Francisco and directed by Jas Wheeler. It was an outdoor production put on by the Stanford Shakespeare Company in Spring of 2025. For this show I was assistant set design behind Trini Rogando and assistant hair and makeup behind Ezra Melosh.

Mural

A major component of the set was the three large flats on stage left. These flats acted as entrances and exit s for the actors while also visually providing a space on the set to represent the streets of San Francisco. Sala Des Rosiers and I co-designed and painted a mural to run across the brick "walls" to center the visual landscape in the era of 1967 San Francisco .

In the set the flats were also adorned with posters that all furthered the world of 1967 San Francisco including posters for events that were actually happening in San Francisco at that time as well as political posters (made by Des Rosiers) for the Capulets and Montages who were warring for the senate seat.

Window

Another area of the set was Juliet's bedroom. I was responsible for Juliet's window. For the window I made a pastel illustration of her view of San Francisco, another piece of visual language to tell the audience the setting of the production.
